The State Council of Educational Research and Training Assam has officially released the Information Brochure for Pre-Entry Test (PET)-2026 for admission into the 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) Course for the academic session 2026–2028. Candidates aspiring to become elementary school teachers in Assam can apply online through the official PET portal.
This entrance examination is conducted for admission into various Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) including DIETs, Normal Schools, BTCs, CTEs, BITEs, and Private Institutes across Assam.

Eligibility Criteria for PET 2026
Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions before applying:
Educational Qualification
- Must have passed Higher Secondary (HS/10+2) examination from a recognized board.
- Candidates should secure at least 50% aggregate marks excluding optional/extra/fourth subject marks.
- SC/ST(P)/ST(H) candidates will get 5% relaxation in marks.
Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 18 Years
- Maximum Age: 34 Years as on 1 July 2026
- Upper age relaxation of 2 years for SC/ST categories.
Residency
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of Assam.
Reservation Policy
- 30% seats reserved for candidates from Science stream.
- 70% seats reserved for Arts and other streams.
- Reservation for OBC/MOBC, SC, ST(P), ST(H), EWS, and PwD categories will be applicable as per Assam Government rules.
PwD categories eligible:
- Visually Impaired (VI)
- Hearing Impaired (HI)
- Orthopedically Handicapped (OH)
