The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India has released the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment Notification – January 2026. This recruitment drive invites applications for the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak across various postal circles in India.

Educational Qualification

Job Profile

Branch Postmaster (BPM)

  • Manage branch post office operations.
  • Handle IPPB services.
  • Promote postal products.
  • Arrange accommodation for the branch post office.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

  • Sell stamps and stationery.
  • Deliver mail.
  • Assist BPM in operations.

Dak Sevak

  • Mail delivery and sorting.
  • Counter duties.
  • Support post office operations.

Selection Process

  • Selection is completely merit-based.
  • No written exam or interview.
  • Merit list prepared based on Class 10 marks.

In case of a tie:

  • Older candidates are given preference.
  • Then category and gender rules apply.
